For many people, removing unwanted hair is the worst part of their normal grooming routine. It takes time, can be uncomfortable, and costs a fortune when stretched over a lifetime. At Balanced Aesthetics, we can solve your unwanted hair concerns with a long-term solution: laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal technology has advanced in recent years, making it more effective for a wider range of skin types. However, the most successful clients have a greater contrast between the hair’s pigment and the color depth of their skin. Patients with darker skin tones may need to find alternative hair removal treatments.
Your Balanced Aesthetics laser practitioner can help you decide the best treatment for you during your comprehensive consultation. We will discuss your medical history, such as skin cancer, keloid formation, open lesions, or other skin disorders, pregnancy, and current medications (including topical).
You may notice some reduction to the density and thickness of your unwanted hair after your first treatment. With repeated treatments scheduled every 4-6 weeks, this reduction of hair will continue until no strands remain. There may be stray strands that appear after your series is complete, but maintenance treatments will quickly take care of them.
The laser’s light energy is converted to heat when absorbed by the pigment in the hair. This heat damages the hair follicles within the skin and delays (for long periods of time) or stops future hair growth. Only hair in the active growth phase can be treated. Once it is, dormant follicles transition into the active phase, at which point they can also be treated. With a personalized series of treatments, you can ensure you have every hair strand treated for complete hair removal that has less of a chance of growing back.
Laser hair removal:
You’ll be instructed to shave the day before your laser hair removal treatment. This removes the hair above the skin’s surface to prevent damage to the skin due to burnt hairs. Avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs 8-hours before treatment. Do not pluck, wax, or have electrolysis done at least 3-4 weeks before treatment to avoid disturbing the hair follicle. Many patients report the sensation of the laser energy like that of a rubber band snapping against the skin.
Treatment number varies from patient to patient and depends on hair and skin pigmentation (color), but 4-6 treatments are usually needed initially with possible low maintenance necessary yearly or bi-yearly.
Temporary skin irritation such as discomfort, redness, and swelling at the time of treatment or directly following may rarely occur and usually disappears within several hours after treatment. Temporary or permanent pigment changes in the skin have been reported but are also rare. We have highly skilled and certified professionals for laser hair treatment in Atlanta, Georgia at Balanced Aesthetics Medspa.
Avoid sunless tanner that darkens the skin after treatment for at least 1 week. Do not expose yourself to excessive amounts of sun for at least 4 weeks after treatment. Keep skin moisturized with clean skincare products and always wear sunscreen when being in the sun for long periods of time.
