How Botox® Works
The first question to answer is how does Botox® work and what can it do for you? Simply put, Botox® is a muscle relaxer made from a naturally-occurring bacteria. When it comes to treating wrinkles, the formula is used to primarily target and reduce dynamic wrinkles. You can find these naturally occurring between your eyebrows and around your eyes and mouth. How it works is that these injections relax the muscles around these wrinkles.
Preventing the muscles from moving reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Your healthcare provider will inject Botox® in the muscles near the wrinkles that you want to be treated. The procedure takes a few minutes and you’ll see results within weeks.
How Dermal Fillers Work (Juvederm®)
Dermal fillers (Juvederm®, Juvederm® Ultra XC, Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC, Juvederm® Vollure XC, Juvederm® Voluma XC, and Juvederm® Volbella XC), are also known as facial fillers and are designed to be injected into facial folds, areas where there is volume loss, and deep wrinkles. It depends on which area you’re targeting, but they can soften wrinkles or enhance and fill in shallow areas. It’s a great solution for the prevention of wrinkles in younger patients. This treatment can last anywhere between a couple of months to a few years.
Difference Between Botox® and Dermal Fillers
There are few main differences between Botox® and dermal fillers. For instance, Botox® works to relax the surrounding muscles around certain wrinkles. It essentially stops creases and wrinkles caused by facial expressions. It lasts about three to four months for most people and will need to be repeated.
On the other hand, dermal fillers will fill in areas that have lost volume and smoothness using hyaluronic acid. The treatment may last longer and even up to two years.
