Safety and side effects

What we tell every patient before treatment.

Common side effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, and small lumps at the injection site. These usually settle within a few days to two weeks. The serious risk with any dermal filler is vascular — filler entering or pressing on a blood vessel, which can restrict blood supply to the skin and, very rarely, affect vision. It is uncommon, and it is the reason we inject slowly, in small amounts, with an understanding of the anatomy, and keep dissolving agent on site. Call us immediately if you have severe or increasing pain, skin that turns white, grey, or mottled, or any change in vision.

Consultation before every treatment Reviewed with a licensed injector Physician-supervised clinic

Filler is not used during pregnancy or while nursing, over an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, or where there is a known allergy to a filler ingredient — including lidocaine, which most of our products contain. Tell your injector if you have a bleeding disorder or take a blood thinner, and about any autoimmune condition. This is a summary, not a complete list of risks. Your provider will give you full pre- and post-treatment instructions.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

Will I look overfilled?
No. We take a conservative, balanced approach — enhancing your features so you look like a refreshed version of yourself.
What if I don’t like it?
Most of the fillers we use are hyaluronic acid–based, which means they can be dissolved. Your injector will talk you through this at your consultation.
What is the difference between filler and a wrinkle relaxer?
They do different jobs. Filler replaces lost volume and fills in a line or hollow. A wrinkle relaxer softens lines caused by muscle movement, like frown lines. Many patients use both, and your injector will tell you which one your goal actually calls for.
Can I combine filler with a wrinkle relaxer?
Yes, and it is common. They treat different things, so they work well together. Your injector will plan the sequence and the timing at your consultation.
How much filler will I need?
It depends on the area and how much volume has been lost. Lips often start at one syringe; cheeks and jawline usually take more. Your injector gives you an exact number and an exact price before anything is booked — there are no surprises at checkout.
Am I a good candidate?
Most healthy adults are. Filler is not recommended during pregnancy or nursing, or if you have an active skin infection in the area. If you have a history of severe allergies or an autoimmune condition, tell your injector at your consult and they will advise you honestly.
How do I prepare, and what do I do afterwards?
Alcohol, fish oil, and anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen all make bruising more likely in the week beforehand. Never stop a prescribed medication — including a blood thinner or daily aspirin — to prepare for filler. Tell your injector what you take and they will plan around it. Afterwards, stay upright for a few hours, skip strenuous exercise, heat, and facials for 24 to 48 hours, and use a cold compress if you swell.
Does it hurt?
Most fillers include a built-in numbing agent, and we can apply topical numbing too. Most people are surprised how comfortable it is.
When will I see results?
Right away. Minor swelling settles over one to two weeks to reveal the final result.
How long does filler last?
Depending on the product and area, results typically last six to eighteen months.
Is there downtime?
Minimal. Some swelling or light bruising is possible for a few days; most people return to their day immediately.
What areas can be treated?
Commonly lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, and the folds around the mouth. Your injector recommends a plan at your consult.
Who performs the treatment?
A licensed medical injector at our physician-led Brookhaven clinic, supervised by our Medical Director.
Do you take Allē or Aspire, and can I finance it?
Yes. We accept Allē and Aspire rewards, so points and offers from your treatments apply here. Financing is available if you would rather spread the cost — ask at your consultation and we will walk you through the options.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the product and how many areas you treat. Request an appointment and we’ll walk you through your options.
