A BEAUTIFUL YOU, INSIDE AND OUT

Loss of Volume | Face and Body

One of the greatest marks of youth is the round curve of a structured face. In our prime years, youthful facial contours are heart-shaped. Then, as middle age begins, that shape becomes more square with downward shifting tissues. Facial volume at the temples, around the eyes, surrounding the cheeks, around the mouth, and along the jawline disappear, leaving us looking gaunt or even haggard. At Balanced Aesthetics + Wellness, we can preserve the vital volume of youth with dermal fillers and bio-stimulators like Radiesse, and Sculptra.

Biostimulators are substances administered via injection to boost the body’s natural collagen synthesis, which enhances skin elasticity, diminishes wrinkles and fine lines, and refines body contours. Various types of biostimulators are available, such as calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, and polycaprolactone.

These agents prompt the body’s cells to generate collagen and elastin fibers, crucial for maintaining youthful, resilient skin—a process termed neocollagenesis.

In contrast to conventional cosmetic procedures, biostimulators require no surgery and offer results that appear natural, with minimal downtime. Consequently, they have gained popularity among individuals seeking non-invasive methods to enhance their appearance.

When biostimulators are injected into the skin, they trigger the body’s cells to produce collagen and elastin fibers. As the body naturally absorbs the biostimulators, the collagen and elastin fibers remain, improving skin texture and volume.

The results of biostimulators are gradual, with improvements appearing over several months., because it takes time for the body to produce new collagen and elastin fibers. However, the results are long-lasting, with some biostimulators providing results that can last up to two years or more.

Different types of biostimulators have different modes of action, so it always best to come in for a consultation to assess your goals and determine a personalized treatment plan.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Most people looking to shave years off their appearance or enhance structure and volume to their face are good candidates for dermal fillers. Not only is the gel made of a substance naturally found in the body to minimize the chance of adverse reactions, but the injection itself also contains lidocaine to ease any discomfort clients feel at the time of treatment. If you’re unsure which filler would best suit your aesthetic goals, schedule a complimentary consultation with Balanced Aesthetics today.

What Results Can I Expect?

Lost facial volume doesn’t stand a chance against the skill and experience of your Balanced Aesthetics expert injector. Because the gel is what provides the volume, your results are immediately visible. It may take a week or two for your tissues to fully settle, but depending on the dermal filler you’ve chosen, you should have youthful contours and good hydration for up to 1-2 years. Many clients start dermal filler treatments early to prevent the creep of age before it takes hold.

What Causes Facial Volume Loss?

The skin’s most important support is a network of collagen fibers entwined to keep skin smooth and firm. However, time and age take their toll on this network. Existing fibers weaken and break, and new fibers are slow to replace them. As a result, the skin begins to sag, and with it, the tissues under them. The jawline develops jowls while hollows form at the temples, beneath the eyes, and around the cheeks. Skin becomes thinner and more prone to lines and wrinkles, deepening facial folds, and an overall weathered appearance.

What Treatments Are There for Facial Volume Loss?

Hydration is one of the ways skin maintains its firm youthfulness. Collagen fibers in well-hydrated skin are less likely to break or become damaged, and skin retains its youthful thickness, so wrinkles are slower to develop. The primary vehicle of skin hydration is hyaluronic acid, which gives skin nourishment it needs to stay supple. The main ingredient in the JUVÉDERM® Family of Dermal Fillers is hyaluronic acid gel. With an exciting lineup of fillers with different consistencies, cohesiveness, and spreadability for nearly any facial rejuvenation purpose, JUVÉDERM® can restore lost facial volume and bring back your youthful contours while hydrating your skin.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC are specifically formulated to fill in deepening nasolabial folds (the lines between the nose and mouth that are sometimes called “parentheses”) and add or restore volume to the lips. The hydration from the gel also prevents new lines from forming around the mouth and lasts 6-months to 1 year in most people.

JUVÉDERM® Volbella™ XC is designed for delicate tissues under the eyes, with a thinner gel consistency and spreadability that hydrates just as well as its thicker, more cohesive counterparts. Under-eye hollows disappear, and you get a refreshed, bright-eyed renewal in just minutes.

JUVÉDERM® Voluma™ XC is a more robust formula designed to restore cheekbones, the chin, and jawline to their structured, youthful glory. Because this gel is more cohesive, there’s less chance of the gel migrating, so it stays right where your Balanced Aesthetics expert injects it for up to 2 years.

Hyper dilute Radiesse® and Sculptra are the newest advances in injectables for volume loss, called Biostiulators.

The skin rejuvenating effects of these treatment are pronounced and visible, with reduction of fine lines, crepiness and skin laxity, making it a perfect treatment for the neck. A series of two to three treatments, six weeks apart is typically needed to achieve optimal results.

Radiesse® and Sculptra can also be used undiluted to create a long-lasting structure. When used in areas to increase volume such as the jawline or midface, and optimal results may require several treatments over the course of a year. After the initial treatment, over approximately 12 weeks, the building block for new collagen to form will be laid down.

Because we are essentially building a foundation, we recommend a 2nd treatment at 12 weeks so we can “build” on the last layer. Think of it as building a wall, one layer of bricks at a time. Radiesse® is a fantastic volumizer to build a lasting change in the areas treated. This is a fantastic alternative to some fillers, which provide more temporary results. Radiesse® and Sculptra are materials that will add long term volume to areas that have atrophied with age, or for those wanting volume or reshaping of midface and jawline, or areas of the body like the hips or buttocks.

What is the Treatment Like?

No matter which dermal filler you choose, your appointment is quick, usually taking about 45-60 minutes. Because of the lidocaine in the fillers, you will feel in initial pinch, then the area becomes numb, making the treatment comfortable. Most patients experience mild side effects, mild swelling, slight bruising or injection site tenderness or redness. These subside on their own but you can improve the downtime when you follow our pre and post treatment guidelines.
