What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained immense popularity in recent years because of its innovative role in healing injuries and wounds. But the cell regenerative benefits of PRP have been proven to be effective for treating aesthetic concerns such as hair loss and facial aging.

PRP is a well-known type of regenerative medicine that we use here at Balanced Aesthetics Medspa, Atlanta, GA, to promote natural healing and restore normal function.

Perhaps you’ve heard of PRP, but don’t know exactly what it is. This article will give you a better understanding of just how amazing platelet-rich plasma can be for you.

What is Platelet-rich Plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is the portion of the blood that contains a blend of plasma and concentrated platelets. Platelets are blood cells that control clotting and promote the body’s repair functions. They have growth factors that accelerate the healing and repair of damaged tissue.

To obtain PRP, our technician will draw a small sample of your blood, which is then placed in a centrifuge and spun at high speed to separate the enriched cells from the other components of the blood. After this process, the blood plasma has a higher concentration of platelets, hence the name platelet-rich plasma.

At Balanced Aesthetics Medspa, platelet-rich plasma is used primarily as a treatment for hair loss. It is an effective, inexpensive hair loss solution that uses your blood to revive dormant hair follicles and regrow your hair.

How Does PRP Help Hair Growth

A healthy scalp is the key to healthy hair. PRP restores the health of your scalp and creates an environment in which your hair can grow and thrive.

After centrifugation, the PRP serum is injected directly into the specific areas of the scalp. When PRP is applied to the scalp, the platelets send out growth factors that stimulate the stem cells in the hair follicles. This leads to the creation of new blood vessels and boosts cell regeneration resulting in hair regrowth.

Can PRP Regrow Your Hair?

PRP is suitable for men and women with mild to moderate hair loss. However, people with hair follicles that have been dormant for a long time may not respond as well to PRP.

If you are struggling with hair loss, or looking for relief from joint pain or injury, PRP can breathe new life into your cells and restore normal function.
